Our tankers and engineers are working in Hampshire almost every day. From the business parks of Basingstoke and Farnborough to farmhouses in the Test valley, cottages in the New Forest and restaurants in Portsmouth and Southampton, we cover the whole county with our own crews and our own tankers.
Hampshire is a big county with very different drainage from one end to the other. The middle is chalk downland cut by famous chalk streams, where private drainage is common and the rules are strict. The west is the New Forest and the Avon valley, with wet ground and protected rivers. The north-east and the south coast are busy towns and cities, where the work is grease traps, interceptors, pump stations and blocked drains.
Every town below has its own page explaining what we see there and which villages we cover. Wherever you are, you get the same team, the same paperwork and the same 24-hour phone line.

Local knowledge
What drainage looks like in Hampshire
Chalk, forest, harbour cities and a lot of new estates.
-
Chalk streams and the downs
The Test, the Itchen and their tributaries are protected chalk streams, and the chalk beneath them supplies drinking water. A septic tank that drains into a stream or ditch has to be upgraded, and new discharges near water sources may need a permit.
-
Groundwater in wet winters
In the chalk valleys around Andover and Whitchurch, groundwater can rise to the surface after a long wet spell. Tanks fill with water and drainage fields stop working until levels drop.
-
The New Forest and the Avon
Around Lyndhurst, Ringwood and Fordingbridge, many homes are off the mains on slow-draining forest soils or wet valley gravels, inside a national park and next to a protected river.
-
Nutrients and the Solent
Most of southern Hampshire drains to the Solent, so councils expect new homes to be nutrient neutral. If you’re building or converting off the mains, that affects which treatment plant you can fit.
-
Flat harbour cities
Portsmouth, Southampton and Gosport are low and flat, so drains run slowly and silt up. Grease traps, gullies and regular jetting matter more here than almost anywhere.
-
New estates and pump stations
From Bordon to Fareham and Hedge End, new developments often rely on private pump stations that management companies have to maintain.

Questions answered
Hampshire septic tank and drainage FAQs
Do you really cover the whole of Hampshire?
Yes. Our tankers and engineers are working in Hampshire almost every day, from Basingstoke and Farnborough in the north to Portsmouth, Southampton and the New Forest in the south. Call with your postcode and we’ll confirm.
How quickly can you get to me in an emergency?
We answer the phone 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and with crews in the county most days we’re rarely far away. Call 03333 233566 and we’ll give you an arrival time.
My septic tank discharges into a stream. Do I have to replace it?
Yes. Under the Environment Agency’s General Binding Rules, a septic tank that discharges to a ditch, stream or river must be upgraded, usually with a treatment plant or a drainage field. A septic tank survey will tell you where your system stands.
What is nutrient neutrality and does it affect me?
Councils across most of southern Hampshire, including Winchester, Test Valley, the New Forest and the South Downs, ask new homes to show they won’t add nutrients to the Solent or the River Avon. It mainly affects new builds and conversions off the mains, not existing homes.
Who looks after the pump station on my estate?
If the water company hasn’t adopted it, usually the management company, paid for through your service charge. Check your purchase paperwork. We service pump stations for management companies across Hampshire and respond 24/7 if the alarm goes off.
