Quick check
Where’s your blockage?
Answer three quick questions to work out roughly where your blockage is, and whether it’s likely to be yours or your water company’s to sort out.
Whatever the answer, we can clear it. Our engineers use high-pressure jetting and CCTV cameras to find the blockage, clear it and check the drain afterwards.
If a drain keeps blocking, a CCTV drain survey will show why. Common causes are tree roots and cracked or displaced pipes, which we can often fix with drain lining instead of digging.
We do this work across Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and London, with tankers and engineers in each area most days.
1. Is it just one sink, bath, shower or toilet?
2. Lift your nearest outside manhole cover. Is it full of water or waste?
3. Are your neighbours having problems too?
A quick guide only. Don’t lift heavy or damaged covers, and never climb into a manhole.
Warning signs
Signs of a blocked drain
Drains rarely block without warning. Water starts draining slowly, plugholes gurgle and smells appear, often days or weeks before a drain stops completely.
Acting on the early signs is cheaper, and avoids the mess of sewage backing up into the house or overflowing from a manhole.
Call us if you notice
- Slow-draining sinks, baths or showers
- Gurgling from plugholes or toilets
- Bad smells from drains or manholes
- An overflowing manhole or standing water outside
- Toilets backing up
On the day
How we unblock your drain
Find it
We lift the covers and, if needed, use a camera to find the blockage.
Clear it
High-pressure jetting breaks up the blockage and cleans the pipe.
Check it
A camera check confirms it’s clear and shows any damage that caused it.
Stop it coming back
If there’s a cause, like roots or a broken pipe, we’ll explain the options.
Prevention
How to stop your drains blocking
Do
- Scrape plates into the bin and wipe greasy pans with kitchen roll
- Put wipes, nappies, cotton buds and sanitary products in the bin
- Use sink strainers to catch food and hair
- Keep gullies and grates clear of leaves
- Have problem drains checked with a camera
Don't
- Pour fat, oil or grease down the sink, even with hot water
- Flush ‘flushable’ wipes: they don’t break down like paper
- Rely on chemical drain cleaners for a blockage that keeps coming back
- Plant trees close to drains
- Ignore slow drains and gurgling

Questions answered
Drain unblocking FAQs
How quickly can you get to me?
We’re available 24/7 and will get to you as quickly as we can. Call us and we’ll give you an idea of timings.
Can I clear a blocked drain myself?
A plunger can shift a blockage in a single sink or toilet. For anything further down, or a drain that keeps blocking, it needs jetting. Don’t climb into manholes, and be careful with chemical drain cleaners, which can damage pipes.
Is the blocked drain my responsibility?
You’re usually responsible for pipes that only serve your property and are within its boundary. Shared drains and the parts of your drain outside your boundary are usually your water company’s responsibility, since October 2011.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
Usually because of roots, a damaged or displaced pipe, or a build-up of fat or scale. A camera check will find the cause.
Will jetting damage my pipes?
Not when it’s done properly. Our engineers adjust the pressure and nozzle to suit the pipe, and take extra care with older, more fragile pipes.
Do you offer maintenance for businesses?
Yes. Regular jetting keeps busy drains, especially in commercial kitchens, flowing and avoids emergency call-outs.
