How it works
How high-pressure jetting clears a drain
Most blockages are cleared by jetting. Here’s how it works.
Prevention
How to stop your drains blocking
Do
- Scrape plates into the bin and wipe greasy pans with kitchen roll
- Put wipes, nappies, cotton buds and sanitary products in the bin
- Use sink strainers to catch food and hair
- Keep gullies and grates clear of leaves
- Have problem drains checked with a camera
Don't
- Pour fat, oil or grease down the sink, even with hot water
- Flush ‘flushable’ wipes: they don’t break down like paper
- Rely on chemical drain cleaners for a blockage that keeps coming back
- Plant trees close to drains
- Ignore slow drains and gurgling
Why Clearmasters
Why choose Clearmasters?
With 34 years in drainage and a fleet of jetting vans and jet/vac tankers, we can clear anything from a blocked sink to a silted-up sewer, and fix whatever caused it.
If the same drain keeps blocking, we’ll usually survey it with a camera to find out why, then fix the cause, whether that’s root cutting, drain lining or replacing a collapsed section.
We do this work across Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex, Kent, Hampshire and London, with tankers and engineers in each area most days.

Questions answered
Blocked drain FAQs
What causes drain blockages?
Most are caused by fat, oil and grease, wipes, sanitary products, food waste, silt, scale and tree roots. Damaged pipes, like cracks and displaced joints, make blockages more likely.
How does high-pressure jetting help?
It uses water at high pressure to break up the blockage and scour the pipe walls clean, then washes the debris away. No chemicals and no digging.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
Yes, 24/7, 365 days a year. Call 03333 233566, or 03333 233577 out of hours.
Who is responsible for a blocked drain?
You’re usually responsible for drains that only serve your property and are within its boundary. Since October 2011, shared drains and the parts of your drain outside your boundary are usually your water company’s responsibility.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
Repeat blockages usually have a cause: roots, a damaged pipe, a displaced joint or a build-up of fat or scale. A camera survey will find it.
