Low ground by the streams
Parts of Crawley lie on low ground beside the Gatwick Stream, Ifield Brook and the upper Mole, and the town has flooded several times, including in 2000 and the winter of 2013 to 2014. Heavy rain can push surface water into chambers and kiosks, and a station near a stream can be overwhelmed if its pumps are already worn.
After a flood, it’s worth having the pumps, floats and panel checked. If silt has settled in the wet well, we can empty the chamber by tanker and get it running cleanly again.
