Septic Tank, Pump Station & Drain Services in Crawley

Pump station servicing, grease traps, blocked drains and tank emptying for homes and businesses across Crawley, Manor Royal and the villages around the town.

Crawley is right on our doorstep. Our transport yard is at Cophall Farm in Copthorne and our office is in Smallfield, both just a few miles from the town, so when you call us you're calling a local firm with its own tankers parked up down the road.

The work we do in Crawley looks different from our rural patches. Most of the town itself is on mains drainage, so much of our time here goes on businesses: grease traps for restaurants and takeaways, gullies and interceptors on industrial estates around Manor Royal and Gatwick, and blocked drains that need clearing before they shut a site down. We also look after pump stations serving housing estates and commercial units, where a failed pump or float can back sewage up within hours.

Beyond the town, the lanes around Rusper, Charlwood, Turners Hill and Worth are full of homes that still rely on septic tanks, cesspits and treatment plants, and we empty and service those too. Whatever the job, you get the same crews, the same paperwork and the same 24-hour cover, every day of the year.

What we do for Crawley customers

01
Engineer servicing a pump station

Pump station servicing, repairs and alarms

Pump stations lift sewage from homes or business units that sit too low to drain by gravity, and plenty of estates and commercial sites around Crawley depend on one. When they go wrong, it's usually a worn pump, a stuck or tangled float, a tripped control panel or a build-up of rags and fat in the wet well. We service domestic, estate and commercial pump stations, test the pumps, floats and high-level alarm, clean out the chamber, and repair or replace control panels. If your alarm goes off at 2am, we'll answer.

02
Tanker emptying a commercial grease trap

Grease traps, interceptors and gullies

Fat, oil and grease from commercial kitchens sets hard in pipes and is one of the most common causes of blocked drains. We empty grease traps for restaurants, pubs, takeaways and staff canteens on a schedule that fits how busy your kitchen is. On industrial and business estates we clean out oil interceptors, silt traps and car park gullies, using jet/vac combination tankers that jet and vacuum in one visit. Every collection comes with a waste transfer note, so your duty of care records stay in order.

03
CCTV camera survey of a drain

Blocked drains, jetting and CCTV surveys

A blocked drain at a shop, office or block of flats needs sorting quickly. Our high-pressure jetting clears fat, scale, silt and roots, and if a blockage keeps coming back we'll put a camera down the pipe to find out why. You get a written CCTV report showing any cracks, displaced joints or root ingress, which is useful for landlords, facilities managers and anyone buying a property. For businesses that can't have engineers on site during opening hours, we can work early mornings, evenings or weekends.

04
Septic tank emptying at a rural property

Septic tanks, cesspits and treatment plants in the villages

Step outside the town and mains drainage soon runs out. Farms, cottages and converted barns around Rusper, Charlwood, Turners Hill, Worth and Balcombe often rely on a septic tank, cesspit or small treatment plant. Our tankers hold between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons and carry jetting kit, so we can empty the tank and clear the pipes in the same visit. We also service treatment plants and can check whether an older septic tank meets the Environment Agency's General Binding Rules.

Commissioning a new twin pump station in Copthorne

The job

A new twin pump station in Copthorne needed its pumps, control gear and wiring installed before it could be put into service. A twin pump set-up has two pumps in the wet well, so if one ever fails, the other can keep the station running.

What we did

We installed two new pumps, fitted a new twin pump control panel in the kiosk, and ran all the wiring between the panel and the wet well. We then commissioned the station, testing it so it was ready to go into use.

The result

The whole installation and commissioning took five hours on site. With the yard only a short drive away, it's the kind of job we can turn around quickly for developers, landowners and management companies around Crawley.

How it works

What happens when you book

The same simple process whether it's a one-off drain call-out in Crawley town centre or a regular pump station service on an estate.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about the job

Ring us or book online and tell us what you've got: a tank, a pump station, a grease trap or a blocked drain. For businesses, let us know the best times to attend and who we should ask for on arrival.

  2. Step 2

Our crew comes out from Copthorne

We arrive with the right vehicle for the job, from a standard tanker to a jet/vac unit. It helps if:

    • there's space to park a tanker close to the tank, trap or manhole
    • lids, covers and pump station hatches are clear and easy to find
    • we know about any site induction, permit or access code in advance
  3. Step 3

    Records you can file

You get a waste transfer note for anything we take away, plus a written report after surveys and services. If it's a regular job, we'll book the next visit so it doesn't get forgotten.

Questions answered

Crawley drainage FAQs

What homeowners, landlords and businesses in and around Crawley most often ask us.

Do you empty grease traps for restaurants and takeaways in Crawley?

Yes. We empty grease traps for restaurants, pubs, takeaways, cafés and staff canteens. How often yours needs doing depends on its size and how busy your kitchen is, and can be anything from every few weeks to every few months. We'll suggest a schedule and stick to it.

You'll get a waste transfer note every time, which is the record you need to show your fat, oil and grease waste has been disposed of properly.

How often should a pump station be serviced?

Most domestic and estate pump stations we look after are serviced every six or twelve months. Busier commercial stations, or ones that handle a lot of fat or rags, may need more frequent visits.

A service includes checking the pumps, floats, high-level alarm and control panel, and clearing out debris before it causes a blockage. It's much cheaper than an emergency call-out when a pump fails.

Who is responsible for the pump station on my estate?

It depends. Some pump stations have been adopted by the local water company, while others are still owned by the developer, a management company or the homeowners themselves. Your property deeds, management company or the water company should be able to tell you.

If it's privately owned, the owners are responsible for keeping it maintained. We work with management companies and residents' groups to set up regular servicing.

My pump station alarm is going off. What should I do?

The high-level alarm usually means the pumps aren't keeping up and the chamber is filling. Cut down water use straight away, so no baths, showers, washing machines or dishwashers, and don't open the control panel or climb into the chamber.

Then call us on 03333 233566. We answer 24 hours a day, and we can empty the chamber to stop it overflowing while we find the fault.

Isn't Crawley all on mains drainage?

Most of the town is, but plenty of properties around it aren't. Homes and farms in the villages and along the rural roads between Crawley, Horsham and East Grinstead often have a septic tank, cesspit or treatment plant. We empty and service all three.

Can you work outside business hours?

Yes. Emergencies are covered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For planned work at shops, restaurants, offices and industrial units, we can arrange early morning, evening or weekend visits so we're not in the way of your customers or staff.

How quickly can you get to Crawley?

Our yard is in Copthorne, a few miles from the town, so Crawley is one of the closest areas we cover. For emergencies, call 03333 233566 and we'll tell you when we can be there. Routine jobs are booked in at a time that suits you. See the areas we cover for the full list.
