Treatment Plant Servicing & Repairs in Haslemere

Treatment plants looked after every year, and repaired when they fail, at homes and estates in the protected countryside around Haslemere.

Haslemere sits between two protected landscapes. The Surrey Hills National Landscape covers the hills to the north, and the South Downs National Park starts just to the south, taking in Blackdown and much of the country around Fernhurst. Building or replacing drainage in either takes care, and the Environment Agency’s rules apply on top of planning.

Many plants here serve large houses set in their own woodland, rebuilt homes on old hillside plots, and properties that have outgrown an old septic tank. On steep sites the plant may have a pump to send treated water up or across the slope, which adds another part that needs checking. Plants under trees also collect leaves and roots around the lids and vents, which can starve the blower of air.

Our engineers service treatment plants across the Haslemere area, clean and test the blower, diffusers and pumps, and leave a written report. Desludging can be done by our tanker on the same visit. We work to the maker’s schedule for each plant.

What's included

What we check at a service

The parts that keep a plant treating properly, and the ones that tend to fail.

  • Outfall and drainage field

We look at where the treated water goes, so problems with the outlet or drainage field are picked up early.

  • Baffles and pipework

We check the baffles, inlet and outlet are clear and undamaged, so waste moves through the chambers properly.

  • Pumps and floats

Any pumps are run and tested, and floats are checked to make sure they move freely.

  • Lid and access

The lid, seals and fixings are checked so the plant stays safe and watertight.

  • Sludge levels measured

We measure the sludge and arrange desludging when it’s due, often on the same visit.

  • Blower and air supply

We check the blower is running correctly and that air is reaching the diffusers, because that’s what keeps the bacteria working.

Keeping your plant working

Headwater streams with little to dilute them

The south branch of the River Wey rises on the northern slopes of Blackdown, and the land east of the town drains to the River Arun. Near their sources these are small streams, often only a trickle in summer. Treated water from a plant makes up a big share of the flow, so a plant that isn’t working shows up quickly.

The General Binding Rules expect every plant that discharges to a stream to be serviced as the maker recommends. On a headwater, that yearly service matters even more. We check the outlet and the water leaving the plant every time.

All the main makes

We service and repair the common makes found on homes and small sites, including Klargester, Conder, Marsh, Graf, Tricel and WPL Diamond. If you’re not sure what you have, a photo of the lid or the panel usually tells us.

If parts for an old plant are no longer made, we’ll explain the options honestly.

Questions answered

Your treatment plant questions answered

We’re near Blackdown, in the South Downs National Park. Can we replace our septic tank?

Yes, but plan early. A new system in the National Park needs to meet the Environment Agency’s rules and may need planning permission from the park authority. A treatment plant is the usual replacement where the outlet goes to a stream. We can survey what you have first.

Can I take over a plant when I buy a house?

Yes, and it’s worth booking a service soon after you move in, so you know its condition and get a fresh service record. Ask the seller for any manuals and past records too.

My treatment plant alarm is going off. What should I do?

Cut your water use right down and call us. Don’t switch the plant off unless it’s unsafe. Most alarms mean a blower, pump or float has failed, and we can usually find the fault on the first visit.

Our plant near Hindhead pumps treated water uphill. Does that need servicing too?

Yes. The pump, its float and the high-level alarm should all be checked at every service. If that pump fails, treated water backs up in the plant and can flood the chamber. We test the whole system, not just the tank, and bring the usual spare parts.

Do you service my make of plant?

We service and repair the common makes, including Klargester, Conder, Marsh, Graf, Tricel and WPL Diamond. If you’re not sure what you have, send a photo of the lid or panel when you get in touch.

How often should a treatment plant be serviced?

Most domestic plants should be serviced at least once a year, and some makers recommend every six months. Your plant’s manual will say, or we can tell you when we see it.
