Septic Tank & Cesspit Emptying in Haslemere

Septic tanks and cesspits emptied on the hillsides and in the valleys around Haslemere, from woodland houses to working farms.

Around Haslemere, private drainage tends to start where the houses thin out. Outside the town and Shottermill, many homes in Grayswood, Churt, Fernhurst, Linchmere and the lanes below Blackdown empty into a septic tank or cesspit of their own. Large old houses in their own grounds are common on the hills, and their tanks can be sized for a smaller household than lives there now.

The geology here is unusual. Most of the town sits on the Hythe Beds of the Lower Greensand, which are porous. Underneath and to the east is impermeable clay, and where the two meet you get a spring line. That’s where the streams of the Wey and the Arun rise, and it’s also where gardens can be wet all year. Springs can appear in odd places on a sloping plot.

Our crews empty tanks around Haslemere as one-offs or on a set schedule. Each load leaves with a waste transfer note, and if the tank needs attention, we say so plainly. If you have a cesspit, a booked schedule means it never gets near the top.

What's included

How we empty your tank

A tidy job, start to finish, by our own crew.

  • A straight answer

If we see a cracked wall, a missing baffle or a blocked outlet, we tell you plainly and explain what can be done.

  • Tidy and careful

Hoses are laid neatly and anything we spill is cleaned up before we leave.

  • Advice on your drainage field

If the tank is backing up because the soakaway or drainage field can’t cope, we’ll tell you so you’re not paying for empties that won’t fix it.

  • Cesspits as well as septic tanks

We empty sealed cesspits and holding tanks too, as one-off jobs or on a regular cycle.

  • Paperwork you can keep

Your waste transfer note shows what was taken and where it went, which is useful when you sell or let the property.

  • A full pump-out

The tank is emptied into one of our own tankers, which hold between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons.

Springs, clay and wet drainage fields

If your drainage field sits near the spring line, it may be fighting groundwater for half the year. East of Grayswood the Weald Clay comes to the surface, and fields there drain slowly in any season. In both cases the tank can fill and back up faster than you’d expect, especially in a wet winter. A field on the clay can need a much bigger area than one on sand.

Regular emptying keeps solids out of a field that’s already under pressure. Where a field has failed, we can advise on a replacement drainage field designed for the ground.

Septic tank or cesspit?

A septic tank separates the solids and lets the liquid drain away to a soakaway or drainage field, so it only needs emptying when the sludge builds up. A cesspit is sealed and simply fills up, so it needs emptying far more often.

Questions answered

Septic tank and cesspit questions

Why is the ground round our tank in Grayswood always wet?

Grayswood is close to where the Weald Clay meets the greensand, and springs rise along that line. A drainage field on the clay or near a spring has to cope with groundwater as well as your wastewater. Regular emptying helps, but if it’s been wet for years the field may need replacing.

I can’t find my tank. Can you?

Often, yes. Tell us about any manhole covers or where the drains seem to run. If it’s well hidden, we can use CCTV and drain tracing to find the tank and the pipes leading to it.

What is a waste transfer note?

It’s a record of what waste was taken, who took it and where it went. Householders have a duty to make sure their waste goes to a registered carrier, so keep the note we give you after every empty.

Do you empty tanks on the Sussex side, around Fernhurst and Linchmere?

Yes. We work on both sides of the county boundary, and the villages south of Haslemere are part of our regular round. Fernhurst, Linchmere, Camelsdale and Kingsley Green are all covered, as are Grayshott and Bramshott over the Hampshire border.

Do I need to be home when you come?

Not always. As long as we can reach the tank, the lid is uncovered and any gates are open, we can usually do the job and leave the paperwork. Let us know when you book.

Can I go on a regular schedule?

Yes. Many customers have their tank emptied on a set cycle, and our office gets in touch when the next one is due, so you don’t have to remember.
