Pump Station Servicing & Repairs in Uckfield

Servicing, repairs and emptying for pump stations on Uckfield’s estates, business sites and low-lying homes.

Uckfield has grown steadily, with estates such as Harlands Farm, Rocks Park and West Park added over the years, and more housing planned at Ridgewood on the southern edge. In hilly country, not every new home can drain downhill to the sewer, so some developments rely on a pump station to lift the sewage.

The town centre and the industrial estate occupy the lowest ground beside the River Uck, which has burst its banks several times since the 1960s. Pump stations serving low-lying buildings, basements and business units here have to cope with heavy rain as well as everyday use, and a failed pump can quickly cause trouble.

We service pumps, floats and control panels, clean out wet wells and empty chambers by tanker. Our engineers hold confined space entry certificates for the work below ground, and we take alarm call-outs at any time of the day or night. Management companies can have their stations serviced on a regular contract.

What's included

What our engineers do on site

A thorough service, recorded in writing.

  • Every pump run and tested

Each pump is run and checked. On twin-pump stations we make sure both the duty and standby pumps work.

  • Run times and starts

We look at how often the pumps start and how long they run, which can show leaks, infiltration or wear.

  • Advice on what goes in

If wipes and fat are causing trouble, we’ll explain what to tell residents or staff.

  • A written report

You get a record of what we found and anything that needs attention.

  • Kiosk and wiring

The kiosk, cables and connections are checked for damage, damp and wear.

  • Control panel checked

The panel is checked for faults, correct settings and anything likely to make it trip.

Repairs, alarms and emptying

Rain, rag and fat in the wet well

Pump stations on low ground can take in far more than they’re meant to during storms if surface water finds its way into the foul drains. The pumps then run for longer, wear faster and are more likely to trip.

Wipes, rag and fat are the other common cause of blocked pumps. A regular service with a wet well clean-out keeps the pumps clear, and our engineers can tell you if rainwater is getting in where it shouldn’t. Asking everyone on the estate to bin wipes rather than flush them makes a real difference too.

Who is responsible?

A pump station serving one property is the owner’s responsibility. On private estates it’s usually the management company or the residents jointly, and some stations have since been adopted by the water company.

If you’re not sure, check your deeds or management pack, or ask us and we’ll help you find out.

What our customers say

★★★★★

They were able to come to clean out my septic tank in a short timeframe. They were careful about not damaging the plants in the area around the septic tank and the technician was polite and helpful. Thank you for your help.

Clearmasters have emptied our Septic Tank for many years. It is not an easy placed tank to get to but the chaps manage perfectly. I find them very efficient, friendly and polite. Thank you Valerie Wise

Questions answered

Pump station questions

Who is responsible for the pump station on my Uckfield estate?

It depends on when and how it was built. Shared stations connected before July 2011 were generally passed to Southern Water in 2016. Newer ones may still belong to the developer or a management company until they’re adopted. Your deeds or service charge paperwork should say, and we can work for whoever is responsible.

Do you work on pump stations for businesses?

Yes. We service and repair pump stations at business parks, farms, holiday sites and commercial premises as well as homes and estates.

My pump station is noisy. Is that a problem?

New noises such as grinding, rattling or a pump running far longer than usual are worth checking. They can mean a worn bearing, a blockage or a valve that isn’t closing. Call us before it fails.

Can you help if a pump station floods during heavy rain in Uckfield?

Yes. We can pump down a flooded chamber by tanker, get the pumps running again and check the floats and panel once the water has gone. If storms keep overwhelming your station, we can look for where surface water is getting into the system and explain how to stop it.

Can you set up a regular service contract?

Yes. We set up planned servicing for homeowners, management companies and businesses, with reminders and a written report after every visit.

Who is responsible for a pump station on a private estate?

Usually the management company or the residents jointly, unless the water company has adopted it. Check your deeds or management pack, or ask us and we’ll help you find out.
