Septic Tank Emptying in Uckfield

Septic tank and cesspit emptying for homes and farms across the Uckfield countryside, from Ashdown Forest down to the Ouse.

Head out of Uckfield in almost any direction and you’re soon on lanes where houses drain to a tank in the garden. Farms and cottages around Framfield and Blackboys, homes near High Hurstwood and Hadlow Down, and properties scattered between Fletching, Piltdown and Isfield are typical of the places where we empty septic tanks and cesspits.

The geology here is mixed. The town sits on the Hastings Beds, layers of sandstone with bands of clay between them, and you can move from one to the other within a field or two. One house may have a soakaway that copes with anything, while its neighbour’s stays wet all winter.

Because of that, we don’t assume anything about a system until we’ve seen it. When we empty your tank we note how full it was, whether the outlet is running freely and whether the drainage field seems to be taking water. You get a waste transfer note for every load we take away.

What's included

How we empty your tank

A tidy job, start to finish, by our own crew.

  • A straight answer

If we see a cracked wall, a missing baffle or a blocked outlet, we tell you plainly and explain what can be done.

  • Long hose runs

We carry enough hose to reach tanks well away from the drive, through gardens and across paddocks.

  • Inlet and outlet cleared

Every tanker carries jetting kit, so a blocked inlet or outlet pipe can be cleared on the same visit.

  • Cesspits as well as septic tanks

We empty sealed cesspits and holding tanks too, as one-off jobs or on a regular cycle.

  • A reminder when it’s due

If you’d like one, our office will get in touch when your next empty comes round.

  • Paperwork you can keep

Your waste transfer note shows what was taken and where it went, which is useful when you sell or let the property.

Frequency, price and access

Sunken lanes and steep ghylls

The countryside around Uckfield is classic High Weald, with narrow sunken lanes and small, steep-sided stream valleys known as ghylls. Some tanks sit well below the house on a slope, or at the end of a track that a big lorry can’t use.

We run tankers from 2,000 to 4,000 gallons, and every one carries jetting kit for blocked inlets and outlets. Tell us about steep drives, tight bends or soft ground when you book, and we’ll send the vehicle that suits your access. If a tank is a long way from where we can park, let us know roughly how far.

How often does a tank need emptying?

Most household septic tanks need emptying about once a year, though a big family with a small tank may need it more often. Cesspits are a different matter: with no outlet, they can need emptying every few weeks or every few months.

Slow drains, gurgling pipes and smells near the tank are the usual signs it’s due. A regular schedule means it never gets that far.

What our customers say

★★★★★

They were able to come to clean out my septic tank in a short timeframe. They were careful about not damaging the plants in the area around the septic tank and the technician was polite and helpful. Thank you for your help.

I have used Clearmasters now for 4 years and the service has been excellent. Very punctual on the day and their planning team have always been very helpful in finding convenient dates to service and maintain our pumps and tanks. I recommend.

Questions answered

Septic tank emptying FAQs

Why do soakaways near Uckfield behave so differently from house to house?

Because the ground changes so quickly. The Hastings Beds around Uckfield are a mix of sandstone and clay, so one drainage field may sit in sandy soil while another a short distance away is in clay. Slope, springs and the age of the system matter too. A survey will show what’s happening with yours.

Will emptying fix a smell from my tank?

Sometimes. If the tank is simply full, emptying it will help. If the smell comes from a blocked outlet or a failing drainage field, we’ll tell you what we find so you can put the cause right.

How do I know my septic tank needs emptying?

The usual signs are slow sinks and toilets, gurgling pipes, a smell near the tank or wet patches over the drainage field. If you don’t know when it was last done, book an empty and start a regular schedule from there.

Can you empty tanks on Ashdown Forest near Nutley and Fairwarp?

Yes. Homes on and around the forest often have long drives, cattle grids or soft verges, so tell us how we reach your tank. The forest is also a protected wildlife site, which is one more good reason to keep a septic tank emptied regularly and working as it should.

I can’t find my tank. Can you?

Often, yes. Tell us about any manhole covers or where the drains seem to run. If it’s well hidden, we can use CCTV and drain tracing to find the tank and the pipes leading to it.

Can I go on a regular schedule?

Yes. Many customers have their tank emptied on a set cycle, and our office gets in touch when the next one is due, so you don’t have to remember.
