Plants on the sand and plants on the clay
North of the railway, many plants send their treated water into a drainage field, and the sandy ground there usually takes it. Further south, on the clay around Tandridge, Crowhurst and Blindley Heath, a ditch or stream is often the only workable outfall.
A clay-country plant is only as good as the ditch it drains to. If the outfall silts up or the ditch overgrows, treated water backs up towards the plant and can flood the final chamber. We check the outlet as part of every service, and we can quote for a new treatment plant installation if an old system has had its day.
