Septic Tank & Cesspit Emptying in Woldingham

Septic tanks and cesspits emptied at homes, farms and outbuildings across Woldingham and the high ground of the North Downs.

Woldingham sits high on the North Downs, around 700 feet above sea level, with large detached houses spread along wooded roads. Much of the village is connected to the public sewer. Outlying houses, farm buildings and homes tucked away in the valley or along the ridge are a different story, and some of them still rely on a septic tank or a cesspit.

Woldingham’s houses stand on generous plots, a pattern the parish has long tried to protect. That often puts a tank at the far end of a big garden or down a long, sloping drive. We bring enough hose to reach a tank a long way from where the tanker parks, which keeps heavy wheels off lawns and soft verges.

Most household septic tanks need pumping out about once a year, and cesspits far more often. We’ll suggest a schedule that suits your tank and send a reminder when it’s due. Every load we take away comes with a waste transfer note, and if a tank is overflowing you can call 03333 233566 at any hour.

What's included

What happens on the day

Every empty follows the same routine, whatever the size of the tank.

  • Lids put back securely

Covers are refitted and left safe, so there’s nothing for children, pets or livestock to fall into.

  • Long hose runs

We carry enough hose to reach tanks well away from the drive, through gardens and across paddocks.

  • Paperwork you can keep

Your waste transfer note shows what was taken and where it went, which is useful when you sell or let the property.

  • Advice on your drainage field

If the tank is backing up because the soakaway or drainage field can’t cope, we’ll tell you so you’re not paying for empties that won’t fix it.

  • Waste taken away legally

Everything we remove goes to a licensed treatment site, and you get a waste transfer note for your records.

  • A straight answer

If we see a cracked wall, a missing baffle or a blocked outlet, we tell you plainly and explain what can be done.

Soakaways on the chalk

Where a drainage field is dug down into clean chalk, the effluent usually soaks away without fuss. The catch is that it travels down quickly too, so anything a septic tank fails to hold back can reach the groundwater with little filtering on the way.

That makes regular emptying especially worthwhile here. Sludge allowed to build up to the outlet pipe will carry over into the soakaway, clogging it and polluting the chalk beneath. If you’re worried about yours, ask us about soakaway maintenance. A tank emptied on time is far less trouble than a soakaway that has to be dug out and rebuilt.

Septic tank or cesspit?

A septic tank separates the solids and lets the liquid drain away to a soakaway or drainage field, so it only needs emptying when the sludge builds up. A cesspit is sealed and simply fills up, so it needs emptying far more often.

Questions answered

Your emptying questions answered

Is Woldingham on mains drainage?

Much of the village is, but not every property. Some outlying houses, farm buildings and homes on the edges of the parish use a septic tank, cesspit or treatment plant. The deeds, the seller’s property information form or a tank lid in the garden will usually tell you which you have.

Should I add anything to my septic tank?

Generally no. A healthy tank works on its own bacteria. The best thing you can do is keep wipes, fat, oils and strong chemicals out of it and have it emptied regularly.

I can’t find my tank. Can you?

Often, yes. Tell us about any manhole covers or where the drains seem to run. If it’s well hidden, we can use CCTV and drain tracing to find the tank and the pipes leading to it.

Can a tanker get to a house on Woldingham’s steep roads and long drives?

Usually, yes. We run tankers of different sizes, and we can lay hose a long way from where we park. Let us know about gates, gradients, weight limits or tight turns when you book and we’ll send the vehicle that suits.

What is a waste transfer note?

It’s a record of what waste was taken, who took it and where it went. Householders have a duty to make sure their waste goes to a registered carrier, so keep the note we give you after every empty.

How big a tanker do you send?

Our tankers range from 2,000 to 4,000 gallons. We choose the size to suit your tank and the access, so tell us about narrow lanes or soft ground when you book.
