Pump Station Maintenance in Reigate

Servicing, repairs and wet well cleaning for domestic and commercial pump stations across Reigate and Redhill.

Reigate is built across a ridge of greensand, with Reigate Hill and the Downs above it and the clay lowlands below. On ground like that, plenty of homes sit lower than the sewer in the road. Houses below street level, garden annexes and basement rooms with a toilet or shower usually rely on a small pump station to lift their waste.

Larger pump stations serve newer housing, offices, schools and business units around Reigate and Redhill. More people depend on these, and they handle heavier flows, so a planned service each year, or more often for busy sites, is sensible. A failed pump on a shared site affects every home or unit connected to it, not just one.

Our engineers test pumps, float switches and alarms, look over the control panel and clean out the wet well with one of our jetting tankers. They hold confined space entry certificates, so they can work safely inside larger chambers. We provide a waste transfer note whenever we take anything away.

What's included

What a pump station service covers

From the kiosk to the bottom of the wet well.

  • Control panel checked

The panel is checked for faults, correct settings and anything likely to make it trip.

  • Floats and brackets

Floats are checked for free movement, and their brackets and chains for wear and corrosion.

  • Cover and access

The chamber cover and its frame are checked so the station is safe to open and safe to walk past.

  • A written report

You get a record of what we found and anything that needs attention.

  • Advice on what goes in

If wipes and fat are causing trouble, we’ll explain what to tell residents or staff.

  • Non-return valves

We check the valves stop sewage running back into the chamber after each pump cycle.

Breakdowns and desilting

Basements and lower-ground rooms

Many of Reigate’s larger period houses have had cellars and lower-ground floors turned into living space. A shower or toilet down there usually sits below the drain, so a compact pump lifts the waste. These small units are easy to forget until a smell or a flood brings them to light.

Wipes, fat and hair are what usually stop them. A yearly service keeps the impeller clear and proves the alarm works. If a pump has already failed, we can empty the chamber and fit a replacement. We can also add a high-level alarm if the unit doesn’t already have one.

Emptying and desilting

Silt, grit and fat settle at the bottom of the wet well over time and can clog pumps and floats. We empty and desilt pump stations with our own tankers, jetting the chamber clean so the pumps have a clear run.

It’s often worth doing this at the same time as a service.

Questions answered

Your pump station questions answered

Why do some homes on Reigate’s slopes need a pump?

If the drains run downhill away from the public sewer, gravity can’t carry the waste there. A pump station collects it in a chamber and pushes it up to the sewer through a narrow pipe. It’s common where houses sit below the road on the hillsides around the town.

Can you set up a regular service contract?

Yes. We set up planned servicing for homeowners, management companies and businesses, with reminders and a written report after every visit.

My pump station is noisy. Is that a problem?

New noises such as grinding, rattling or a pump running far longer than usual are worth checking. They can mean a worn bearing, a blockage or a valve that isn’t closing. Call us before it fails.

Who looks after the pump station on a newer development in Reigate?

It depends. Some are adopted by the water company, while others stay private and are run by a management company or shared by the residents. Check your deeds or service charge paperwork. If it’s private, we can take on the servicing and emergency call-outs.

The pump station alarm is going off. What should I do?

Stop using water as much as you can and call us on 03333 233566. Don’t open the chamber yourself. Tell us what the control panel shows, and we’ll come out to find the fault.

How often does a pump station need servicing?

Most domestic pump stations are serviced every six or twelve months. Busier stations on estates or commercial sites usually need more frequent visits. We’ll recommend an interval after the first service.
