Pump Station Servicing & Repairs in Cranleigh

Pump stations on new estates, private drives, farms and business sites around Cranleigh, serviced and repaired before small faults turn into floods.

Cranleigh has grown a lot in recent years, with several hundred new homes approved on the edges of the village. Where a new estate or a small group of houses sits lower than the sewer it connects to, a pump station lifts the waste up to it. Depending on the developer, the station may be adopted by the water company or stay private.

The land around Cranleigh is fairly flat, and a sewer can only fall so far before it needs a pump. Pump stations also turn up at farms where a house and its buildings drain to one point, at converted barns set below the yard, and on business sites in the wider area, such as the former aerodrome at Dunsfold Park.

Our engineers keep Cranleigh’s private stations running with planned visits and repairs, our tankers clear and jet chambers, and alarm calls are answered day and night on 03333 233566. For management companies looking after estate stations, we can set up planned servicing and send each visit’s report straight to you.

What's included

Inside a pump station service

The checks that stop most call-outs before they happen.

  • Alarm tested

We test the high-level alarm so it will warn you before the chamber overflows.

  • Kiosk and wiring

The kiosk, cables and connections are checked for damage, damp and wear.

  • Advice on what goes in

If wipes and fat are causing trouble, we’ll explain what to tell residents or staff.

  • Wet well cleaned

Rags, fat and silt are cleared out, with the chamber emptied by tanker where needed.

  • Floats and brackets

Floats are checked for free movement, and their brackets and chains for wear and corrosion.

  • Non-return valves

We check the valves stop sewage running back into the chamber after each pump cycle.

Breakdowns and desilting

01

Flat clay ground and slow-moving water

On flat Wealden clay, rain has nowhere quick to go. After a long wet spell, groundwater around Cranleigh can stay high for weeks, and it finds its way into older chambers through joints and cable ducts. The pumps then run to clear water that should never have been there, and they wear out sooner.

Our engineers check chambers for signs of water getting in at every service, as well as testing pumps, floats, the alarm and the panel. Most faults are put right there and then. Sealing the leaks can cut pump running time a lot.

Alarm call-outs, day or night

If the high-level alarm is sounding or the pumps have stopped, call us at any hour. We find the fault, whether it’s a failed pump, a stuck float, a corroded bracket or a panel problem, and put it right.

If the chamber is close to overflowing, we can empty it by tanker first to buy time while the repair is done.

Questions answered

Your pump station questions answered

We’ve bought a new home in Cranleigh with a private pump station. Who maintains it?

Check your sale documents. If the water company hasn’t taken the station on, it’s usually run by a management company that charges each household. Ask them who services it and how often. If the station serves only your home, it’s your responsibility, and we can book it in for regular servicing.

Who is responsible for a pump station on a private estate?

Usually the management company or the residents jointly, unless the water company has adopted it. Check your deeds or management pack, or ask us and we’ll help you find out.

My pump station is noisy. Is that a problem?

New noises such as grinding, rattling or a pump running far longer than usual are worth checking. They can mean a worn bearing, a blockage or a valve that isn’t closing. Call us before it fails.

Our farm near Dunsfold pumps waste from the house to a treatment plant. Do you service both?

Yes. We can service the pump station and the treatment plant on one visit, so the whole system is checked together. Our engineers test the pumps, floats and alarm, check the plant, and leave one written report. If either needs emptying, our tanker can do that too.

What shouldn’t go down the drain to a pump station?

Wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton buds, fat and cooking oil cause most blockages. Even wipes sold as flushable can wrap around pump impellers. Keeping them out is the cheapest way to avoid call-outs.

How often does a pump station need servicing?

Most domestic pump stations are serviced every six or twelve months. Busier stations on estates or commercial sites usually need more frequent visits. We’ll recommend an interval after the first service.
