Pump Station Servicing, Repairs & Emptying in Horsham

Planned servicing, emergency repairs and emptying for pump stations serving homes, private estates and businesses in and around Horsham.

A pump station lifts sewage from properties that sit too low to drain to the sewer or treatment system by gravity. You'll find them serving single homes, barn conversions and whole private estates around Horsham, often tucked away under a green kiosk and a chamber lid that nobody thinks about until the alarm goes off.

When a pump station fails, it doesn't take long for sewage to back up into drains and gardens. Most failures come from things a service would catch: worn pumps, stuck or tangled floats, corroded fittings, tripped control panels, and rags and fat building up in the wet well.

We service, repair and empty pump stations for homeowners, management companies and businesses across the Horsham district, and we answer alarm call-outs around the clock.

What's included

What a pump station service covers

A proper service looks at every part of the station, from the kiosk to the bottom of the wet well.

  • Every pump tested

Each pump is run and checked. On twin pump stations, we make sure both duty and standby pumps work.

  • Floats and fixings

Floats are checked for free movement, and their brackets, chains and guide rails for wear and corrosion.

  • High-level alarm

We test the alarm so it will warn you before the chamber overflows.

  • Control panel

The panel is checked for faults, correct settings and anything that could cause it to trip.

  • Wet well cleaned

Rags, fat and silt are removed, with the chamber emptied by tanker where needed.

  • Service report

You get a written record of what we found and anything that needs attention.

Repairs and emptying

Repairs and alarm call-outs

If your high-level alarm is sounding or the pumps have stopped, call us at any hour. We'll find the fault, whether it's a failed pump, a stuck float, a corroded bracket or a control panel problem, and put it right. We can replace pumps and fit new control panels, and our trained confined space teams handle work inside the chamber safely.

If the chamber is close to overflowing, we can empty it with a tanker first to buy time while the repair is done.

Emptying and desilting

Over time, silt, grit and fat settle at the bottom of the wet well and can clog pumps and floats. We empty and desilt pump stations with our own tankers, jetting the chamber clean so the pumps have a clear run.

It's often worth combining this with a service visit.

Corroded float brackets caught at a six-monthly service

Found

At a routine service of a private estate pump station in Southwater, our engineer spotted that both brackets holding the float switches had corroded badly.

Fixed

We returned on 23 September 2026, fitted two new 4-hook float brackets, and then checked the pumps, floats and alarm across the whole system.

Avoided

Had a bracket given way, the floats could have dropped and stopped the pumps switching on. Instead, a two-hour planned visit prevented an emergency.

Questions answered

Pump station FAQs

How often does a pump station need servicing?

Most domestic and estate pump stations should be serviced at least once a year, and busier stations more often. The Southwater station featured above is on a six-monthly service, which is how its corroded brackets were caught before they failed.

Who is responsible for the pump station on a private estate?

It depends on who owns it. Some have been adopted by the water company, but many on private estates are still the responsibility of the developer, a management company or the residents. Your deeds or management company should be able to confirm, and we're happy to set up servicing for whoever is responsible.

The pump station alarm is going off. What should I do?

Stop using water as far as you can, keep people and pets away from the chamber, and don't try to open the control panel. Then call us on 03333 233566 at any time of day or night.

Can you replace pumps and control panels?

Yes. We supply and fit replacement pumps and control panels, and we install and commission complete new pump stations.

Do you empty pump stations?

Yes. We empty and desilt wet wells with our own tankers, either as a planned job or in an emergency to stop the chamber overflowing.
