Pump Station Servicing & Repairs in Edenbridge

Pump station servicing, repairs and emptying for homes, developments and business premises in Edenbridge and the surrounding villages.

Edenbridge has grown well beyond its old High Street. Post-war estates such as Stangrove Park and Spitals Cross, newer housing on the edges of town and a mix of business premises all need their waste to reach the sewer, and on flat valley ground that isn’t always possible by gravity. The old centre sits on the river’s floodplain, so much of the ground is very level.

When there’s no fall to work with, a pump station collects the sewage and pushes it to a higher point in the system. Around Edenbridge you’ll find them serving groups of new homes, single houses set back from the road, farm buildings, and septic tanks or treatment plants that need to lift effluent to an outfall. A small station might serve one bungalow, while a larger twin-pump unit can handle a whole road.

We look after pump stations of every size, from routine servicing to repairs and emptying, and we take alarm calls 24 hours a day. A brimming chamber can be pumped down by one of our tankers before the fault is fixed.

What's included

What a pump station service covers

From the kiosk to the bottom of the wet well.

  • Advice on what goes in

If wipes and fat are causing trouble, we’ll explain what to tell residents or staff.

  • Kiosk and wiring

The kiosk, cables and connections are checked for damage, damp and wear.

  • Cover and access

The chamber cover and its frame are checked so the station is safe to open and safe to walk past.

  • Run times and starts

We look at how often the pumps start and how long they run, which can show leaks, infiltration or wear.

  • Every pump run and tested

Each pump is run and checked. On twin-pump stations we make sure both the duty and standby pumps work.

  • Non-return valves

We check the valves stop sewage running back into the chamber after each pump cycle.

Repairs, alarms and emptying

01

Low ground and heavy rain

The Edenbridge area has a record of foul sewers being overloaded in heavy rain, with problems logged in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Low-lying property near the river and Skinners Stream is the most exposed when the system backs up.

A pump station with both pumps working and a tested alarm gives you the best chance of riding out a storm. A sound non-return valve and a clean wet well matter too. We check all of this on a routine visit and empty the chamber if it has filled with silt.

Emptying and desilting

Silt, grit and fat settle at the bottom of the wet well over time and can clog pumps and floats. We empty and desilt pump stations with our own tankers, jetting the chamber clean so the pumps have a clear run.

It’s often worth doing this at the same time as a service.

Questions answered

Pump station questions

Can flooding in Edenbridge damage my pump station?

Yes, it can. Floodwater can get into the chamber or control kiosk, and a submerged control panel may trip or fail. Once the water has gone down, have the pumps, floats and panel checked before relying on them again. We can also empty the chamber of any silt the flood has left behind.

Can you set up a regular service contract?

Yes. We set up planned servicing for homeowners, management companies and businesses, with reminders and a written report after every visit.

Who is responsible for a pump station on a private estate?

Usually the management company or the residents jointly, unless the water company has adopted it. Check your deeds or management pack, or ask us and we’ll help you find out.

Who maintains the pump station on a newer Edenbridge estate?

It depends on whether Southern Water has adopted it. Many stations on newer estates are adopted, but some stay private and are looked after by a management company or the homeowners. Your deeds or service charge paperwork should say. If it’s private, we can service it on a schedule.

How often does a pump station need servicing?

Most domestic pump stations are serviced every six or twelve months. Busier stations on estates or commercial sites usually need more frequent visits. We’ll recommend an interval after the first service.

Can you replace pumps and control panels?

Yes. We supply and fit replacement pumps, floats and control panels, and our confined space teams handle any work inside the chamber.
