Septic Tank & Cesspit Emptying in Abinger

Septic tanks and cesspits pumped out along the whole length of Abinger parish, from the Downs above the A25 to the Weald at Walliswood.

Abinger is a long, narrow parish. It starts on the chalk of the North Downs, drops into the Tillingbourne valley at Abinger Hammer, climbs over the greensand hills past Abinger Common, then falls away to the Weald clay at Forest Green, Walliswood and Oakwood Hill. The ground changes several times in a few miles.

Homes across the parish are mostly scattered cottages, farms and larger houses with their own drainage. On the greensand, a septic tank’s soakaway usually drains well. Down at Forest Green and Walliswood, the clay takes in water far more slowly, so drainage fields there need more care and tanks need emptying on time.

We empty septic tanks and cesspits throughout Abinger, either as a one-off or on a regular schedule, and we pick the tanker to suit the lane. Call 03333 233566 at any hour if a tank is overflowing. If you’re new to the area and unsure whether you have a septic tank or a cesspit, we can tell you on the first visit and suggest how often it needs doing.

What's included

How we empty your tank

A tidy job, start to finish, by our own crew.

  • Long hose runs

We carry enough hose to reach tanks well away from the drive, through gardens and across paddocks.

  • Paperwork you can keep

Your waste transfer note shows what was taken and where it went, which is useful when you sell or let the property.

  • A look before we start

The operator checks the level and condition of the tank first, so anything unusual is spotted before the pump goes on.

  • Lids put back securely

Covers are refitted and left safe, so there’s nothing for children, pets or livestock to fall into.

  • Cesspits as well as septic tanks

We empty sealed cesspits and holding tanks too, as one-off jobs or on a regular cycle.

  • A full pump-out

The tank is emptied into one of our own tankers, which hold between 2,000 and 4,000 gallons.

A Clearmasters tanker emptying a tank at a rural property

Forest Green and Walliswood: the clay end

The southern part of Abinger sits on Weald clay, and some of its streams flow south towards the head of the River Arun rather than north to the Tillingbourne. Clay stays wet for months, so a drainage field here relies on the tank holding back as much sludge as possible. An overdue empty is often behind a soggy field.

If your field is wet all winter, an empty may not fix it on its own. A septic tank survey checks the tank, the outlet and the field, so you know whether something needs repairing.

What affects the price?

The cost depends mainly on how much there is to take away and how easy the tank is to reach. A tank at the end of a long drive, or one that needs its pipes jetting as well, takes longer than one by the road.

What our customers say

★★★★★

I have been using Clearmasters since I moved into a house with a klargester in 2015. Since then, they have carried out all the regular visits for empties, as well as service checks. I can’t speak more highly about their level of service and professionalism. Very friendly guys, always leave the place in good order, never had an issue. Highly recommend for anyone needing a similar service.

Absolutely phenomenal service from Clearmasters. Not only did they come out and fix our drainage with a moments notice, they did it with a smile on their face and were extremely polite, helpful and knowledgable whilst doing so. After being let done by another local company, Clearmasters came to our rescue. A massive thank you to both Max and Matt. Highly, highly recommend

Questions answered

Septic tank emptying FAQs

Why is my soakaway at Abinger Common fine when one at Walliswood is always wet?

The ground is different. Abinger Common sits on sandy greensand, which drains freely. Walliswood is down on the Weald clay, which holds water. The same tank can behave very differently in each place, so the emptying interval and the size of the drainage field need to suit the ground.

Can you empty my tank in an emergency?

Yes, we take emergency call-outs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Until we arrive, cut your water use right down: no baths, showers, washing machine or dishwasher, and flush as little as possible. Then call 03333 233566.

How do I know my septic tank needs emptying?

The usual signs are slow sinks and toilets, gurgling pipes, a smell near the tank or wet patches over the drainage field. If you don’t know when it was last done, book an empty and start a regular schedule from there.

Can you reach houses along the lanes below Leith Hill?

Usually, yes. The sunken lanes around Abinger Common and Friday Street are narrow and steep in places, so we choose a tanker to match and use long hoses where we can’t get close. Let us know about tight turns, gates or soft ground when you book.

Should I add anything to my septic tank?

Generally no. A healthy tank works on its own bacteria. The best thing you can do is keep wipes, fat, oils and strong chemicals out of it and have it emptied regularly.

What is a waste transfer note?

It’s a record of what waste was taken, who took it and where it went. Householders have a duty to make sure their waste goes to a registered carrier, so keep the note we give you after every empty.
